Mass Shootings, Synagogue Shooting

Trading the Sword of the Spirit For a Gun?

After the October 27, 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting that left 11 people dead, there is an increase in talks about having armed staff and guards in churches.

Shooter, Robert Gregory Bowers was quoted “HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) likes to bring invaders in that kill our people”…. “I can’t sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I’m going in.”

This is clearly a hate crime against the Jewish community, while  Present Trump is in support of having houses of worship armed, protesters still seem to want to blame President Trump.  The Trump’s attended a memorial for the shooting victims as people rallied and chanted protests to the family.  Really?  What is wrong with people?  On the grounds of a mass shooting, you’re going to make it political statement.  Not only is that disrespectful to the families, but also shows a mass ignorance about his character.  I guess these protesters neglected to realize the President’s daughter, who was also in attendance paying her respects, is married to a Jewish man and converted to a Judism in 2009.  Trump was quoted saying, in regards to his daughter pregnancy, “I love Israel. I’ve received some of my greatest honors from Israel. My daughter, Ivanka, is about to have a beautiful Jewish baby,”

So what does Trump have to do with this horrific hate crime?  Nothing, absolutely nothing.

Mark Wahlberg Chooses Family over Fame

Mark Wahlberg

Why Mark Wahlberg goes to church on Saturday nights.

In a recent trip to New York, actor Mark Wahlberg decided to go to church instead of taking in all of what Broadway had to offer.

Wahlberg was quoted in an interview with The Chrisitan Post saying, I’ve been very blessed and very fortunate. And it’s because of the focus that I put on my faith and on my family that have allowed me to accomplish so many things. Also, with the failure and disappointment and loss, life is not easy,” he added.

His words are something we can all learn from.  Faith and Family over Fame and Fortune, I pray Mr. Whalberg’s statement will encourage more men to step up and lead their families this way as well.

Energy Drinks: The High that Kills

Our Energy Drink addiction is becoming an epidemic.

Energy is defined and strength needed to sustain physical and mental activity.  Is is possible for Energy to come from a can of chemicals?  The obvious answer is no, however, the increase in the consumption of theses drinks seem to state otherwise.  We all know energy comes from healthy eating, sleep habits and exercise, so why does America seem to want to poison our bodies with this junk?

If Energy Drink ads were truthful, the tag line would state, “Why not try a metal tube of sparkling chemicals”, as one recent YouTube PSA states (see video below).

Energy Drinks cause numerous health problems, including:

Cardiac Arrythmia (Irregular Heartbeat), Stroke, Dehydration, Heart Attacks, Gastrointestinal Issues, High Blood Pressure, Enlarged Heart, and Seizures.

Is it surprising that healthy athletes are dying on the soccer, football, and other fields after a physical working out?

Is it surprising that more and more young people are diagnosed with diseases, like cancer and diabetes?

So why are they still on the market?  It’s a $44 Billion industry, in which there is a HUGE market.  We, as consumers, set the demand on products.  As long as we have an “instant gratification mindset” and support these companies by spending our money on supporting their agenda, products like these “heart attacks in a can” will never go away.

“Be Still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the Earth.”
Psalm 46:10

“It’s a common experience that a problem difficult at night is resolved in the morning after the committee of sleep has worked on it.”
John Steinbeck

Ok, everyone has a pet-peeve (or a dozen), right? Well I don’t know what it is about semi-trucks in the left lane that makes me a little crazy. Every time I see one, I just want to scream “MOVE to the right! You are a professional driver! The left lane is for PASSING.” As I’m rolling my eyes and giving a mental tongue lashing to this poor truck driver, I have an out of body experience of sorts. I hear the Holy Spirit whispering in my ear, “Nancy, how many times have I told you to pull over to the right, slow down, and get out of the fast lane?” In all the craziness of life, aren’t we just like that truck, physically unable to keep up with the Mustangs, Chargers, and Corvettes of life, but we keep reeving our engines, instead of just taking the time to just breathe, sit with God at a heavenly gas station and refill our tanks?
In that moment, I was reminded of the Disney movie “Cars.” I fell in love with that movie, especially how the main character, Lightening McQueen, would race around non-stop, looking for his next victory, accomplishment, and trophy. It wasn’t until he was forced to slow down, that he was able to see the more sustainable gifts God had provided to him. Cars is a great movie, but it’s the story behind the story that is even better. The idea for this movie came from a personal experience in the life of the movies director, John Lasseter. After a nine-year run of directing box office hits like, “A Bugs Life”, “Toy Story”, and “Toy Story 2,” his wife came to him as said, “John, we have supported you in the building of Pixar, but you better be careful, because one day you are going to wake up and your boys will be going off to college and you will have missed it.” On a side note, it’s always a great woman behind every great man, or should I say it’s always a great woman behind every great man that will listen to her, after all God created Eve to be a help mate to Adam, God knew what men needed, the love of a good woman, Mrs. Lasseter, you are truly a wise woman! Well the rest of the story is that he took the summer off, bought a used motorhome, and traveled America off the US Highway system, and it changed their lives. When he returned to work, he knew he wanted this movie to reflect what he had discovered, that the journey of life is the reward. It amazes me that it took him checking out of work mode, taking a break from trying to run the race and get to the finish line, for one of this man’s biggest ideas to be born, and as an added extra bonus, God threw in a lifelong memory of bonding that changed the family forever, just because He could! What a lesson to learn! We all can use time to slow down, and remove the noise from our lives, so we can hear God’s voice and direction.

Music: “Breathe” Jonny Diaz

Prayer for today:
Father God, I pray that we take the time for the things that are truly important in life. I pray that each and every person reading this will find value in checking out from the rat race we call life long enough for them to be still and know you are indeed a God who loves us and wants to walk with us, talk with us, and guide us to what we would have missed if we didn’t take the time to just breathe. Thank you Lord, in Jesus name, Amen
